Do the best by your footage.
Green skin tones are a real issue when converting S-Log3 to Rec709, even Davinci Resolve’s CSTs don’t produce a fantastic result.
I spent time assessing all of the best technical conversion LUTs available from Sony and there has been a lot of them over the years! I wanted to make sure I wasn’t building something that strayed too far into the realms of a creative LUT when what I wanted was a technical transform that still left enough room for you to grade underneath.
The result is SLog3.fix, a technical transform that will help your Sony cameras produce great looking yet natural skin tones without the hassle.
Want something a little stronger?
I also designed SLog3.punch in case you need something a bit stronger, this leans closer to a creative LUT giving you a complete look in one step but there is still a little room underneath to grade.
Get the most from these LUTs.
Both of these LUTs were designed to sit at the end of your colour pipeline to act as the colour space transform or ODT taking your image into the Rec709 colour space. This also means they can be used directly inside of your Sony camera or external monitor as a monitoring LUT, you will find specifically marked versions inside the download for this purpose.
Whatever software you use for grading, I recommend you perform your adjustments (exposure, contrast etc) underneath the LUT rather than after the LUT has transformed the image to Rec709. Very simple inside of Resolve but if you are using Premiere or FCPX it might be best to apply the LUT using an adjustment layer and perform the adjustments per clip.
